HC Deb 06 November 1930 vol 244 cc1024-5
40. Mr. ARTHUR MICHAEL SAMUEL

asked the Prime Minister whether he can now state when, and in what form, legislation will be introduced to give effect to the recommendations of the recent Royal Commission on Museums and Galleries regarding the powers of the trustees of the National Gallery to lend their paintings and drawings?

The PRIME MINISTER

A one-clause Bill has been drafted, and will shortly be introduced, empowering the Trustees, at their discretion, to lend paintings and drawings abroad under proper safeguards.

Captain CAZALET

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether that covers English and foreign pictures?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Bill I have asked for covers both English and foreign pictures.
