§ 49. Mr. EDMUNDSasked the Prime Minister whether he has now ascertained the views of Members as to earlier sittings on Fridays; and whether he proposes to amend the Standing Orders of the House to give effect to the recommendation of the Select Committee?
§ The PRIME MINISTERNo representations on the subject have reached me since, on the 3rd July last, I informed the House that, should there appear to be a widespread desire for the change it could be tried, as an experiment, this autumn. In the circumstances I think it would be preferable to await re-examination of the problem by the Select Committee on Procedure which it is proposed to set up forthwith.
