HC Deb 26 May 1930 vol 239 cc806-7
44. Viscount WOLMER

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many persons have been established in small holdings since he took office?

Mr. N. BUXTON

Returns of holdings actually established are only obtained from councils at the end of each year, but during the past 12 months I have approved schemes submitted by councils under Section 2 of the Small Holdings and Allotments Act, 1926, relating to an area of 5,884 acres, which will provide 182 new holdings.

Viscount WOLMER

Are these smallholders making farming pay?

Mr. BUXTON

They are, on the whole, apparently doing well.

Mr. W. J. BROWN

The Government are making the Post Office pay, any way.
