HC Deb 26 May 1930 vol 239 c799
31. Sir WALTER de FRECE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the reason for the delay in the commencement of the new League of Nations building at Geneva; and whether the management of this scheme is in the hands of a committee, and, if so, what committee?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

The delay has been due to certain difficulties which have arisen in connection with the acoustic properties of the new Assembly Hall, and with the drainage of the site. But it is hoped to invite tenders in August for the first stages of the work. The Council are at present acting under the advice of a Committee of Five, but the execution of the plans when formally approved will be in the hands of the Secretary-General and the Building Committee of the League.

Sir W. de FRECE

Has any money been paid over for the site, and, if so, does it come out of the funds of the League?

Mr. HENDERSON

That is a question of which I must have notice.
