HC Deb 22 May 1930 vol 239 cc544-5
4. Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

asked the Minister of Labour whether municipalities receiving unemployment grants are allowed to discriminate between union and non-union labour?

Miss BONDFIELD

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply on this matter given on Monday last to the hon. Member for the Hallam Division (Mr. L. Smith).

Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

Can the right hon. Lady say whether a copy of the instructions to which she refers is in possession of the Sheffield Corporation?

Miss BONDFIELD

I think they are aware of them.

Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

Can the right hon. Lady say how the present matter in dispute is getting on, in view of the instructions she sent?

Miss BONDFIELD

I must have notice of that question.

Mr. THORNE

Is it not the fact that a large number of these people are taken from the Employment Exchange registers?
