HC Deb 20 May 1930 vol 239 c193
15. Major McKENZIE WOOD

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of import licences granted under the Dyestuffs (Import Regulation) Act, 1920, for each of the last three years?

Mr. W. GRAHAM

The numbers are 6,753, 7,051 and 7,373 for the years 1927, 1928 and 1929, respectively.

Major WOOD

Does not this show the great handicap of this Act, and will the right hon. Gentleman bear this fact in view when the Government are deciding the future of the Act?

Mr. GRAHAM

This and many other matters are material in arriving at a decision whether the Act shall be continued.

Brigadier-General Sir HENRY CROFT

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind in this connection the enormous increase of unemployment in this industry and the great increase in the price of British dyes?

Mr. GRAHAM

I can only say that the subject remains to be considered in all its aspects before a decision is made.
