HC Deb 19 May 1930 vol 239 cc20-1
38. Mr. MARJORIBANKS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to what penalties foreigners are liable, under the laws of the Soviet Union, who contravene the law against the teaching of religion in Russia?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

I have been in communication with His Majesty's Ambassador in Moscow, who informs me that he has been unable to obtain any definite information on the subject.

Mr. MARJORIBANKS

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that I have asked this question twice and received no reply and that until I get an answer I shall go on asking the question?

Mr. HENDERSON

Perhaps Mr. Speaker will have something to say about that.

Earl WINTERTON

What reason did the British Ambassador give for being unable to obtain information on a matter of some importance—

Mr. HENDERSON

rose

Earl WINTERTON

Will the right hon. Gentleman allow me to finish my question and not be in such a hurry on a matter of some importance to a British subject in Russia? Will the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to answer?
