HC Deb 19 May 1930 vol 239 c34
71. Mr. MALONE

asked the First Commissioner of Works what is the proportion of Dutch or foreign bulbs used by his Department in the London parks?

Mr. LANSBURY

Assuming that my hon. Friend's question refers to the spring-flowering bulbs now in bloom, the answer is that only about 4 per cent. of these are of foreign origin. The foreign bulbs planted are of certain special varieties which cannot be readily obtained in this country. I should like to pay a tribute to the growers and those responsible for their cultivation, in which I feel sure that hon. Members and the public who have seen the display of tulips in St. James's Park and elsewhere, or may yet see it, would wish to join.
