HC Deb 14 May 1930 vol 238 c1861
24. Captain EDEN

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether any decision has yet been come to as to the outcome of the Naval Conference to proceed with work on the naval base at Singapore as agreed by the Imperial Conference of 1926?

Mr. ALEXANDER

I regret I am not yet in a position to add anything to my previous statements on this subject. The question is still being considered.

Captain EDEN

Why this further delay? We were told, originally, that there would be a decision after the Conference, and, now that the Conference is over, cannot the right bon. Gentleman announce the decision?

HON. MEMBERS

Speech!

Mr. ALEXANDER

The hon. and gallant Member is difficult to satisfy. He is very anxious that the Dominions should be consulted, and it is therefore very important that we should examine the whole of the facts in connection with the Conference.
