HC Deb 14 May 1930 vol 238 cc1869-70
47. Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs the amounts and purposes of the grants made by the Empire Marketing Board, out of the Empire Marketing Fund, to Government Departments?

Mr. LUNN

The great majority of the grants for scientific research from the Empire Marketing Fund are made through Government Departments at home or overseas. I could not undertake, within the limits of a Parliamentary reply, to give details of the grants, numbering over 80, so administered, but full details of these grants will appear in the Board's Annual Report. This is to be published next month, and I will arrange for a copy to be sent to the hon. Member.

Mr. SKELTON

Is the hon. Gentleman satisfied that these grants are usefully employed?

Mr. LUNN

I am satisfied that they are very carefully considered by a Committee of the Empire Marketing Board, and they are confirmed by the Board; and I have no reason to doubt that they are used in a satisfactory manner.
