HC Deb 12 May 1930 vol 238 cc1435-6
44. Sir W. DAVISON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what permits have been given to Russian Press representatives in this country; and whether similar facilities are given to the representatives of the British Press in Russia?

Mr. DALTON

A permit renewable every six months is granted to the correspondent of the Tass Agency, who is the only Soviet citizen representing the Soviet Press in this country. A similar permit is given to the only British subject representing a British paper in the Soviet Union.

Sir W. DAVISON

Has the British representative the same facility for transmitting news to this country that the Russian representative here has for transmitting news to Moscow?

Mr. DALTON

That appears to be a different question.

Sir ASSHETON POWNALL

What is the paper?

Mr. DALTON

I think that it is the "Daily News."

Sir W. DAVISON

The question on the Paper is whether similar facilities are given to the British Press, and may I have an answer?

Mr. DALTON

The hon. Gentleman wants an answer to a different question. [HON. MEMBERS: "No!"] He asked about permits, and I have given him the answer—[Interruption.]

Sir W. DAVISON

The latter part of the question is—[Interruption.]

Mr. SPEAKER

There appears to have been a misunderstanding, and the hon. Member had better put the question down again.
