HC Deb 27 March 1930 vol 237 c596
51. Mr. MORLEY

asked the President of the Board of Education what is the total amount of money spent annually from public funds upon education in the United States of America?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

I understand that the gross expenditure, including capital expenditure, on public educational institutions in the United States of America was about 2,315 million dollars in 1925–26, the latest year for which I have been able to obtain figures.

Mr. MORLEY

Do not these figures suggest the desirability of spending more money on education in this country?

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Is not the President of the Board of Education aware that there are enormous endowments on education in the United States which accrue to the American Education Department?
