HC Deb 17 March 1930 vol 236 cc1711-2
66. Commander SOUTHBY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the 12 cruisers now in reserve commission are ready for full commissioning and immediate service; and, if not, what period would elapse before they would be in all respects ready for sea?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Mr. Ammon)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative; as to the second part, the periods would vary according to the condition of the ships, and the nature of the emergency which required their being put in full commission.

Commander SOUTHBY

Can the hon. Gentleman give the longest period that would elapse?

Mr. AMMON

I am afraid that I should have to ask notice of that question.
