HC Deb 13 March 1930 vol 236 c1466
23. Mr. HACKING

asked the Home Secretary the number of tourists entering this country from abroad during the years 1928 and 1929, respectively?

Mr. CLYNES

My statistics do not enable me to distinguish tourists from other visitors on holiday. The annual return for 1928 under the Aliens Order, 1920, shows that 224,815 alien visitors to the United Kingdom were given leave to land, and the quarterly returns for 1929 show a total of 238,391.

Mr. HACKING

Will my right hon. Friend consider whether it is possible in future returns to distinguish between those people who come here to spend their holidays and those who come for other purposes?

Mr. CLYNES

I will consider it, but it is rather difficult to distinguish between those who come to tour this country and those who visit it for other purposes.
