asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state the number of men who were engaged in the mercantile marine during the period of the Great War and who suffered the loss of a limb or limbs in consequence of such service and, of these, the number in respect of whom his Department have accepted financial responsibility?

I regret that the desired information cannot be made available without a laborious investigation, but the number of cases in which my Department has assumed responsibility for the supply and miantenance of seamen's artificial limbs is about 20.
