HC Deb 02 June 1930 vol 239 c1754
25. Mr. C. WILLIAMS (for Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE)

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in the interests of world peace and trade, he can make to the Chinese Government any offer of good services in terminating the civil war which has now lasted for a number of years?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

I am satisfied that His Majesty's Minister in China will not fail to take advantage of any opportunity which his influence may afford to further the cause of peace. But, in the absence of an invitation from any of the Chinese parties, I doubt whether any offer, such as the hon. Member suggests, would be either welcome or effective.
