HC Deb 02 June 1930 vol 239 cc1770-1
69. Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that Mr. H. M. Foord, of 5, Stapylton Road, Barnet, Herts, who is 87 years of age and who served for over 24 years in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, was awarded a meritorious Service medal in January with a £10 annuity, and that when this became known to the Barnet District Committee on Old Age Pensions they reduced both Mr. Foord's and his wife's old age pensions from 6s. to 4s. weekly in both cases, so that he is now financially worse off than he was before the award of the meritorious Service medal; and whether, seeing that Mr. Foord was a contributor to an approved society since 1904, he will look into this case immediately, especially as no payment whatever of the old age pension has been made since the 9th of May?

Miss LAWRENCE

This case is before my right hon. Friend on appeal, and is already receiving attention.

Colonel HOWARD-BURY

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that this is a very disgraceful case of an old man of 87 who has been awarded the meritorious Service medal and is in a worse position than before? Is it not a case that calls for the most serious consideration?
