HC Deb 02 June 1930 vol 239 cc1736-7
41. Sir GEORGE PENNY

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department what number of persons were employed on salary by the Department of Overseas Trade, and engaged in the organisation or conduct of the British Industries Fair, in each of the years ending 31st March, 1929, and 31st March, 1930, and the total amount paid in salaries to those persons in each of those years?

Mr. GILLETT

Certain members of the staff of my Department are for a portion only of their time engaged on work connected with the organisation of the Fair. Subject to this, the number of persons whose salaries are specifically charged to that subhead of the Vote which relates to the Fair was 18 in each of the years mentioned, and the total amount paid to them was £3,840 and £4,080, respectively.

42. Sir G. PENNY

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether a contract has been made by or on behalf of the Overseas Trade Department for the use of premises in London for the holding of the British Industries Fair; if so, for what number of years; for what number of weeks in each year; and for what rental or other considerations?

Mr. GILLETT

A contract has been made with the management of Olmypia for 10 years from 1930 inclusive, for six weeks in each year, at the rate of £25,000 for 527,000 square feet, which includes general lighting, heating, insurance, rates and taxes, and certain uniformed staff.
