HC Deb 31 July 1930 vol 242 c705
79. Sir F. HALL

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the quantity of wheat and other cereals imported into this country from Russia during the 12 months ended 30th June?

Mr. W. GRAHAM

During the 12 months ended 30th June, 1930, the following quantities of the various kinds of cereals imported into the United Kingdom were registered as consigned from Russia:—Wheat, 688,000 cwts.; barley, 1,789,000 cwts.; oats, 289,000 cwts; maize, 79,000 cwts.; rye, nil.

Sir F. HALL

Are any of these cereals either grown, gathered or otherwise handled by convict labour?

Mr. GRAHAM

I must ask for notice of that question. It is an entirely separate issue.

Sir F. HALL

I wonder whether the right hon. Gentleman would mind inquiring during the Recess.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Is it not a fact that all labour in Russia is convict labour?
