HC Deb 30 July 1930 vol 242 cc463-4
6. Mr. MATTERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any steps are being taken to participate officially in the proposed celebration in London on 17th December of the centenary of the death of Simon Bolivar, the South American liberator?

Mr. DALTON

The question whether there should be any official participation by His Majesty's Government in the proposed celebration is now receiving careful consideration.

Mr. MATTERS

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that most of the European Governments are participating in this historic anniversary, and that British participation would be very welcome in the South American States?

Mr. DALTON

I am very glad to know that. We are looking into the matter carefully to see what form, if any, the participation will take.
