HC Deb 30 July 1930 vol 242 cc663-4

Lords Amendment: In page 28, line 6, after the word "subsection" insert: (a) in the case of premises included in clearance order which are not specified therein as being unfit for human habitation or dangerous or injurious to health or (b) in the case of any other premises

Mr. SPEAKER

This Amendment raises a question of Privilege in that it increases the charge upon local authorities.

Mr. JOHNSTON

I beg to move, "That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said Amendment."

This is a simple point. In the case of good property, where a clearance order has been imposed by a local authority, it is now provided that the local authority shall bear any legal expenses incurred in evicting the tenants of such property.

No change takes place in the case of evicting a tenant from a slum, but in the case of good property we think it proper that the local authority should bear whatever legal expenses are incurred.

Question put, and agreed to.

Mr. SPEAKER

A special entry will be made in the Journals of the House.

Subsequent Lords Amendment to page 28, line 25, agreed to.

Lords Amendment: After Clause 28, insert:
