HC Deb 21 July 1930 vol 241 c1747
62. Sir NAIRNE STEWART SANDEMAN

asked the Postmaster-General what method is employed by the Post Office to obtain tenders for telegraph poles; how many tenders were sent in from the North of Scotland; and how many of them were refused during the last year?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Viant)

Tenders for poles are obtained by direct invitation to growers and agents at home and abroad, and by public advertisement in Great Britain. Last year 140 invitations were sent to home growers and agents, but only three tenders were received. Two of these were from the North of Scotland, and contracts were placed with both these tenderers.
