HC Deb 14 July 1930 vol 241 c930
67. Dr. HASTINGS

asked the President of the Board of Education if he is intending to introduce legislation for the compulsory inspection and registration of private schools?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Sir Charles Trevelyan)

I am afraid that I cannot undertake to introduce legislation for this purpose at the present time.

Dr. HASTINGS

Does the right hon. Gentleman not feel that there is great need for legislation of this description?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

It is important, but there are other important matters.

Mr. ANNESLEY SOMERVILLE

Why have special powers in this respect, which are not enjoyed by any other local authority, been granted to the Corporation of Kingston-upon-Hull in their Bill?
