HC Deb 27 January 1930 vol 234 cc611-2
46. Mr. BECKETT

asked the Prime Minister what the composition and numbers of the new Economic Council will be; whether any appointments have yet been made; and, if so, what they are?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Ramsay MacDonald)

As regards the first part of the question, I must ask my hon. Friend to await the White Paper which I have promised. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.

Mr. BECKETT

Are the statements that have been made as to the appointment of officials incorrect?

The PRIME MINISTER

If any statements have been made that officials have been appointed, they are incorrect. I have not seen them.

Mr. BRACKEN

Have any representations been made by the Trade Union Congress against one of the gentlemen selected?

The PRIME MINISTER

There is not the shadow of foundation for such a statement, and this is the first that I have heard of it.

Mr. BECKETT

Is the Prime Minister aware that the appointment of a joint secretariat has been announced in the whole of the Press?
