HC Deb 27 January 1930 vol 234 c614
65. Mr. EDE

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of commons and their total acreage within the Metropolitan Police District which are not subject to schemes of regulation?

Mr. N. BUXTON

There are no available official statistics as to the exact number of commons and their exact total acreage within the Metropolitan district, but probably the total number is slightly over 100 and the total area approximately 9,000 acres. Of these, 31, comprising 4,171 acres, are subject to schemes of regulation under the Metropolitan Commons Acts; two, comprising 340 acres, are the subject of Orders imposing limitations and conditions as to the exercise of the rights of public access under Section 193 of the Law of Property Act, 1925; and a few have been placed under regulation by local Acts independently of the Ministry. The remaining commons, numbering over 60 and comprising about 2,700 acres, are not subject to any scheme of regulation.
