HC Deb 18 February 1930 vol 235 c1156
60. Mr. SHAKESPEARE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give consideration to the revenue possibilities of an export tax on whisky in his forthcoming Budget?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

The hon. Member's suggestion has been noted.

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a foreign buyer of a bottle of whisky can get it for from one-third to one-half of the price charged to the poor British consumer?

Mr. SNOWDEN

I cannot give an answer to that question from my own actual experience.

Brigadier-General Sir HENRY CROFT

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that, apart from the members of the Liberal party, Members of this House desire to increase exports?
