HC Deb 18 February 1930 vol 235 cc1155-6
59. Dr. HUNTER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that the dry-cleaning industry is penalised by the continuance of the tax on petroleum spirit which is the chief raw material of the trade; and if he will consider the advisability of granting a rebate when such spirit is used exclusively in manufacturing processes?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on the 12th December last to the hon. and gallant Member for Hexham (Colonel Clifton Brown), and to the discussions which took place on this matter during the Debates on the Finance Bill of 1928.
