asked the Secretary for Mines the number of inspectors engaged under the Mines Act; if this is an increase on 1927 and 1928; and the number of inspections made below ground for 1927, 1928, and 1929, respectively?

Mr. SHINWELL

There are 110 inspectors appointed under the Coal Mines Act, 1911. The figures for 1927, 1928 and 1929 were 105, 104 and 106, respectively. The number of underground inspections made at coal mines in 1927, 1928 and 1929, were respectively, 18,844, 17,922 and 18,692.
