asked the Secretary for Mines how many explosions of fire-damp causing loss of life there have been during 1929; and how many of them have been caused by shot-firing or by electricity?

Mr. SHINWELL

During 1929 there were 13 fatal explosions of fire-damp, and they caused a loss of 34 lives. Three, in which 13 lives were lost, were due to shot-firing. One in which nine lives were lost was due to electricity.
