HC Deb 16 April 1930 vol 237 cc2875-6
5. Mr. SMITHERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will call a conference of representatives of the Powers of Europe to consider what joint action can be taken to counteract the anti-religious activities of the Bolshevist Government?

Mr. DALTON

No, Sir. As my right hon. Friend informed the hon. and gallant Member for Gainsborough (Captain Crookshank) on the 12th of March, in reply to a practically identical question, he is not prepared to take any initiative on the lines suggested.

Mr. SMITHERS

Is the policy of the Government in accordance with British traditions, which is to uphold the oppressed, and will the Under-Secretary not see what steps can be taken—[HON. MEMBERS: "Order!"] On a point of Order. Is it in order for the hon. Gentleman to point to the door. Am I, Mr. Speaker, to take my orders from the hon. Gentleman or from you?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member had better take his orders from me.
