(for Viscount ELMLEY) asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of people who emigrated to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, respectively, during the year 1929; and how far emigration to these Dominions has been increasing during the last few years?

The figures for which the Noble Lord asks in respect of the four years 1926 to 1929 will be circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT. The figures show that the aggregate of the emigrants to the four Dominions specified has decreased from about 119,000 in 1926 to about 94,400 in 1929; the emigration to Canada has increased year by year.

The numbers of British subjects who were recorded in the lists of passengers from ports in this country as leaving permanent residence in the United Kingdom to take up permanent residence in British North America, Australia, New Zealand and British South Africa, respectively, in each of the years 1926 to 1929 were as follows:
