HC Deb 08 April 1930 vol 237 c1956
64. Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has now considered the proposal that he should make representation to the United States of America on the subject of the proposed increase of duties on lace and lace net; whether such representations have been made; and, if so, with what result?

Mr. W. GRAHAM

I has e given the matter further consideration, but I regret that I am still of the opinion that representations to the United States Government in the matter would not serve any useful purpose.

Lieut. - Colonel ACLAND - TROYTE

Does the right hon. Gentleman not think that these representations would be much more successful if he had retaliatory powers?

Mr. GRAHAM

No, Sir.

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a matter of opinion.
