HC Deb 12 November 1929 vol 231 c1700
17. Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he is aware of the resolution passed by the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, in July last, recommending as absolutely necessary more up-to-date and adequate means of communication between Plymouth and Cornwall, and urging the Government to incorporate this in any scheme for unemployment relief which they may be inaugurating in the near future; and what action he proposes to take?

Mr. THOMAS

I was not aware of the resolution referred to by the hon. Member, but representations have been made to me on the subject, and I am in consultation with my hon. Friend the Minister of Transport as to the best course to pursue.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind the advisability of sending an officer down from the Government to make a report on this scheme, seeing that it will be difficult for the parties concerned to reach an agreement unless that is done?

Mr. THOMAS

I am aware of the difficulties, and of the conflicting views of the parties, and I contemplate calling them together myself.
