HC Deb 12 November 1929 vol 231 c1697
11. Mr. W. B. TAYLOR

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether, when exploring national schemes for providing work for our people, regard was taken of the water-logged and water-slain land in this country which used to be food-producing and work-providing arable land; and, if so, can he now inform the House of the result of ouch inquiry, if made?

Mr. THOMAS

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. In reply to the second part, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave to a question put by the right hon. Gentleman the Member for West Woolwich (Sir K. Wood) on the 5th instant, in which I indicated that the Government are considering the promotion of legislation to enable comprehensive works of land drainage to be undertaken.
