HC Deb 11 November 1929 vol 231 cc1529-30
67. Dr. MORGAN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Royal Assent has yet been given to the St. Lucia Scholarship Sus- pension Ordinance; if not, whether the assent will be delayed until the whole subject of the West Indian Islands scholarships and their threatened suspensions has been reconsidered again; and whether he has received any representations from St. Lucia, especially from elected representatives, on the matter?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Lunn)

The reply to the first portion of my hon. Friend's question is in the affirmative; the second portion does not, therefore, arise. A communication was received from the Elected Members of the St. Lucia Legislative Council through the officer administering the Government protesting against the Ordinance. Their representations were given full consideration, but my Noble Friend found himself unable to intervene in the matter.
