asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of cases of foot-and-mouth disease that have been con firmed by his Department during the previous three months; and can he give particulars?

Mr. N. BUXTON

During the three months ended 9th November, 12 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease have been con firmed in four fresh centres. With the permission of my hon. Friend, I will circulate the detailed particulars in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether there has been any modifications in the Regulations issued from his Department on this subject during the last month or two?

Following are the detailed particulars:

These outbreaks have involved the slaughter of 615 cattle, 235 sheep and 643 pigs, with compensation amounting to approximately £18,050.

It was not possible to identify the origin of the initial case in any of these centres.

Infected area restrictions are still in force in the last two counties mentioned.
