HC Deb 04 November 1929 vol 231 cc598-9
68. Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of acres of land that have gone out of cultivation during the past two years?

Mr. N. BUXTON

The returns collected by the Ministry on 4th June each year show that between 1927 and 1929 the total area of land under hops and grass declined by 153,278 acres. The decrease in arable land during the same period was 362,827 acres.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is this the result of four years of Conservative policy for agriculture?
