asked the Minister of Agriculture how many applications for small holdings have been received since the Small Holdings Act of 1926 come into force; and how many of these have been successful?

The number of applications for holdings received between the 15th December, 1926, when the Act was passed, and the 31st December, 1928, the latest date for which information is available, was 6,036. In addition, there were 5,565 applicants on the waiting lists at the earlier date. Of these, 2,274 had been provided with holdings up to the 31st December, 1928. During the present year schemes have been approved by the Ministry which, if carried into effect, will provide a further 115 holdings.
