HC Deb 04 November 1929 vol 231 c595
55. Mr. O. LEWIS

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many additional inspectors have been appointed to enforce the payment of the prescribed minimum wages to agricultural labourers since the present Government took office; and what the estimated total annual cost of such additional appointments will be?

Mr. N. BUXTON

Six additional inspectors have been appointed under the Agricultural Wages (Regulation) Act, and it is estimated that the total annual cost will be about £8,000. This estimate includes not only the salaries and expenses of the inspectors but also the cost of consequential increases in the clerical and legal work involved.
