HC Deb 04 November 1929 vol 231 cc583-4
11. Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he has any information with regard to the arrest and imprisonment of Mr. Marcus Daly in the French Congo?

18. Mr. ALLEN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what action, if any, has been taken in the case of Mr. Marcus Daly, a British subject arrested by the French colonial authorities; and whether he can make a statement as to any reports he has received of the treatment of Mr. Daly by the French authorities?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

Mr. Marcus Daly brought his case to the notice of my predecessor, and certain information has been received from His Majesty's Consul at Boma, to whom Mr. Daly also appealed. I would prefer, however, to make no statement on the case at this stage, as there are several points connected with it which require further investigation.

Mr. ALLEN

Is it the fact that Mr. Marcus Daly was most barbarously treated by French colonial troops?

Mr. HENDERSON

I have no knowledge of his having been barbarously treated.
