HC Deb 06 May 1929 vol 227 cc1931-2
1. Mr. DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he can give the date on which the commencement was made of the erection of the India House in London; whether any decision has been come to with reference to the payment of Indian artists for the decoration and fitting of this building; and, if so, will he give particulars?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)

Work was begun in February, 1928. A scheme for the decoration of certain portions of the interior of the building by Indian artists has been approved by the Government of India, and it is understood that artists have recently been selected in India for a preliminary course of study in Europe. Details of the manner in which the work will be executed have not yet been settled.

Mr. DAY

Can the Noble Lord say whether there are any details as to when it is expected that India House will be finished?

Earl WINTERTON

No, Sir.
