HC Deb 06 May 1929 vol 227 c1938
14. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps, if any, have been taken to link the British territories of Africa by means of a regular system of civil air service?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Philip Sassoon)

I have been asked to reply. I would refer my hon. Friend to the replies given to the hon. Member for Clitheroe (Captain Brass) on 14th March and to the Noble Lord the Member for Weston-super-Mare (Lord Erskine) on 2nd May.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Was not that just a statement as to the spendid assistance which had been given to the Air Force by the Colonies in Africa, without any reference to the creation of links between the Colonies themselves and the main route?

Sir P. SASSOON

I think the answer was to the effect that the necessary finance was assured. Of course, in the establishment of such a service there must be a good deal of preparation.
