§ 46. Major CARVERasked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs if he will give the names of the members 1734 serving on the Committee to investigate the claims of the Southern Irish loyalists; the number of meetings that have been held; and the remuneration which is being given to each member?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREI have been asked to answer this question. The members of the Irish Grants Committee are Sir Alexander Wood Renton, K.C.M.G., K.C. (Chairman), Sir James Brunyate, K.C.S.I., C.I.E., and Sir John Oakley, G.B.E. The Committee has held 219 meetings. Remuneration is paid to the Chairman at the rate of £1,100 per annum and to Sir James Brunyate at the rate of £1,000.
§ Major CARVERMay I ask why no remuneration was paid to Sir John Oakley?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREIf the hon. Member will put down that question, I will make inquiries.
§ Mr. T. WILLIAMSIn view of the recent position of the Government, will the committee feel disposed to reconsider any claim previously turned down?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREI think that question hardly arises out of the answer. It is so far removed from the original question that I think the hon. Member had better put it down.
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GORESince the committee was set up, which to the best of my recollection was about 15 months ago.
§ Mr. WEDGWOOD BENNWho represents the Treasury on the committee?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREThey all do.
