Mr. PYBUSasked the Lord Privy Seal whether he is aware that, although sea defence rates in the seaside towns in Essex are high, coast erosion cannot be properly checked owing to financial limitations; and whether, in view of the suitability of such works for providing employment, he will instruct the officers of the appropriate Department to visit these and other affected areas and report on the local conditions for the purpose of creating a special form of grant for sea defence?
