HC Deb 18 February 1929 vol 225 cc769-70
25. Sir HARRY BRITTAIN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department as representing the First Commissioner of Works whether he will consider the possibility of offering the use of the Chapter House as a sacristy in connection with the services at Westminster Abbey, in order to avoid the necessity of erecting the new building at present contemplated?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Lieut.-Colonel Sir Vivian Henderson)

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Has the hon. and gallant Gentleman seen the serious criticisms which have been made regarding this proposed new building; and has this House any say in the matter?

Sir V. HENDERSON

In what matter?

Sir H. BRITTAIN

To the matter of a new building, which is against good taste, being erected alongside Westminster Abbey.

Sir V. HENDERSON

No, Sir.
