HC Deb 18 February 1929 vol 225 c758
7. Brigadier-General CLIFTON BROWN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to the resolution passed by the Native Princes of India last week; and whether he can reassure them as to the position of the British connection and of the treaties made between them and the British Crown?

Earl WINTERTON

I have seen the reports contained in the newspapers. Official information of the proceedings of the Chamber of Princes has not yet been received.

Brigadier-General BROWN

May I ask when the report of the Butler Committee will be issued, arid whether the Indian Princes will be asked for their opinion on the report before legislation is passed?

Earl WINTERTON

If my hon. and gallant Friend will look at the question, he will see that that point does not arise. Perhaps he will put a question on the Paper.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Can the Noble Lord give us any idea when the Butler Committee is likely to report?

Earl WINTERTON

The Butler Committee has reported, but I am not in a position to say if and when the report will be published.
