HC Deb 18 February 1929 vol 225 cc757-8
6. Captain GARRO-JONES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that Dutch aircraft have been flying from Calcutta to Bangkok without alighting at Rangoon en route; whether there is an aerodrome at Rangoon; and, if not, whether this is the reason why this large town is passed over by commercial aircraft?

Earl WINTERTON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative and to the second part in the negative. The Rangoon racecourse was used as a landing-ground by permission of its owners until about the beginning of November last when they withdrew that permission. The Government of India propose to establish a civil aerodrome at Rangoon when funds are available, which it is hoped will be the case during the financial year beginning next April.
