HC Deb 18 February 1929 vol 225 c778
50. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can now state the increase in the number of electors on the register as the result, of the Representation of the People Act, 1928, and to what extent that number differs from the official estimate?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir William Joynson-Hicks)

I cannot yet add anything to the reply which I gave on the 31st ultimo to a similar question put by the hon. Member for Blackpool (Sir W. de Frece).

Sir H. BRITTAIN

If I put down a question for this day week, will the right hon. Gentleman be able to give a reply?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The hon. Member can put a question, but the answer which I gave in January was that I could not give the figures until after 1st May.

Mr. THURTLE

Is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that the increase is such as to ensure comfortable Labour majorities?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

No, nor are you.
