HC Deb 30 April 1929 vol 227 cc1378-9
25. Mr. DAY

asked the Postmaster-General whether he has received any Report from the British Broadcasting Corporation with reference to any increase in the building of high-power stations for the purpose of providing alternative programmes in the northern and western section of Great Britain; and can he state whether the Government have been consulted and given any decision in the matter?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. I understand that the British Broadcasting Corporation are at present engaged in searching for suitable sites for these stations, but that they are not yet in a position to submit definite proposals for my approval.

Mr. DAY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say where the sites will be? Will they be in the north or the west?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

I am not in a position to submit definite proposals.
