asked the Undersecretary of State for the Home Department, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, the quantities and sources of anthracite purchased for the heating of buildings under the control of His Majesty's Office of Works during the financial years ending 31st March, 1927, 31st March, 1928, and 31st March, 1929?

The quantities of anthracite purchased for the heating of buildings under the control of His Majesty's Office of Works during the last three financial years has been as follows:

Year ended 31st March, 1929 2,680
Supplies are drawn from South Wales for use in England and Wales, and from Scotland for use in Scotland. The smaller quantity consumed in the year ended 31st March, 1927, was due to the coal stoppage in Great Britain.
